Native Corsican Muriel Giudicelli learned her craft at small, boqitue wineries in France and under the mentorship of Antoine Arena – one of Corsica’s most important winemakers, that you will get to taste this month too. He’s, famed for his pioneering, terroir-driven natural wines. In 1996, Muriel leapt at the chance to take over 5ha of prime, old vines from a retiring winemaker and launch her own domaine on the island. She’s upped the area of land she works to 10ha alongside her husband in Patrimonio, producing tiny quantities from Corsica’s native varietals. There is always long elevage, that is, the time between fermentation and bottling, allowing the wines to settle within themselves making for remarkable vitality
