Amorotti Cerasuolo 2021
£36.00
A very recent discovery of Cépage following a visit to the Abruzzo region of Italy, around the seaside town of Pescara on the Adriatic coast. Gaetano Carboni a lawyer born in 1976, revived his family's farm in a place called Loreto Aprutino in the early 2010s, dedicating 5 of 50 hectares to organic vines, guided by the likes of Emidio Pepe, to produce wines of true Abruzzo terroir, intervening minimally in the winemaking process. All Amorotti wines are pristine, with an incredibly expressive stye. Vines are planted at 350 meters on clay-chalk soils, benefiting from Gran Sasso's cooling and Adriatic moderation.
A Cerasoulo is a fascinating wine style. Made from the deeply coloured, thick skinned Montepulciano grape, native to Abruzzo. It literally translates to ‘cherry red’, due to the intensely cherry like colour, of course. The wine undergoes a light skin maceration, just following the press, which extracts an incredible colour.
