Dry Medium Bodied Red Wine
Located in the Ribera del Duero, although taking the wines outof the strict protocols of the D.O (Destination Origin) and prefering to call the wines 'Vino de la Tierra de Castillo y León', Alfredo Maestro produces some incredible value wines. He started as a highly traditional winemaker, seeking to produce the most archetypal Duero wine in the region.
Over time, as production increased, Maestro questioned the use of so many chemicals and so much intervention in the winemaking process. Since a move towards biodynamic farming, albeit uncertified, the prodcuer now holds 9 hectares and two small bodegas, one located in his native Peñafiel in the Ribera del Duero, and the other in the Navalcarnero area, southwest of Madrid.
The Vine Almate is a wonderful introduction to what can be achieved by consciously crafting wines with care and the utmost respect for the land in the Duero.
